Building Problems

Please refer to the Department of Fair Trading Publication on Tolerances for Defects at http://www.buildingcommission.com.au/resources/documents/S+T_GUIDE_07.pdf

The following is a photo gallery of problems in buildings and some causes:

29/3/2007 - Trees growing too close to a building
can have many problems. This banksia fell over
in a moderate wind 25/3/2007 on the roof of the
Lennox Head Playroup. Luckily there were no
children there at the time. There is
no apparent termite damage to the tree. The size
of the trunk appears solid but the top of the
tree created too much surface area and the
tree broke. (photo GBarr 2007)

29/3/2007 - Overlay timber floors with medium
density fibre board (mdf) backing have marked
easily. These overlay floors are cheaper than solid
timber overlays but anything dropped or moved
on this floor causes an indent. (photo GBarr 2007)

GRAFFITI

Graffiti2.gif
Graffiti can be annoying after spending
much time designing a building and to
see it changed by a spray artist, not to
mention the devaluing of property.
Some things to try are Wattyl anti-
graffiti coatings
Wattyl . Also Elco have
clear coatings to ease the pain of
cleaning graffiti
Elco . Some people
also suggest providing a special
panel for graffiti artists be
provided on a building. Dulux also have anti-
graffiti products.
